The novel “The Heroic Field” is the first book in E. Zorin’s tetralogy about ancient Rus'. It recreates the history of the Vladimir-Suzdal principality of the second half of the 12th century. The reader will meet on its pages with the young Vsevolod the Big Nest, his brother Mikhalka, with architects, artisans, merchants, and warriors, who are gathered into the heroic army by the common desire for the unity of Rus'. Using extensive ethnographic and folklore material, the author reproduces vivid pictures of urban and rural life of that time. “The Border of Fire” is the author’s second book on a historical theme. It features many of the same characters that the reader met in “The Bogatyr Field.” The novel depicts Ancient Rus' at the end of the 12th century (1182–1194)—the fall of Kyiv and the rise of Vladimir. At the center of the novel are two historical figures: the Vladimir prince Vsevolod and the Kiev prince Svyatoslav. “The Big Nest” is the third book from the tetralogy conceived by the author about the Vladimir prince Vsevolod the Big Nest, about Rus' at the end of the 12th century and the urgent need of that time for the unification of isolated principalities, for the end civil strife on the eve of the Tatar-Mongol invasion. The first two books (“The Heroic Field” and “The Fiery Border”) tell how Vsevolod, who pursued a unification policy, subjugated Rostov the Great and Kyiv, the third book tells how he managed to conquer Veliky Novgorod - he defeated the boyar freemen." Stained Rus'" is the final part of E. Zorin’s tetralogy about the Vladimir prince Vsevolod the Big Nest, about Rus' at the beginning of the 13th century. It tells about the last years of Vsevolod's life and reign and the renewed brutal princely feud that broke out after his death - civil strife that weakened Rus' on the eve of the Tatar-Mongol invasion.
