Since 1452, with the publication of the 42-line Gutenberg Bible, the text and the book have been one. To publish a text meant to print a book, to read a text meant to read a book, and one could only purchase a text by purchasing a book... This story began on an ordinary Friday evening, when an intern brought publishing veteran Robert Dubois, the former owner and now editor-in-chief of the publishing house, which he still owns his name, e-reader. Looking at the “smooth, black, cold thing,” the old publisher realizes that from now on his life will never be the same. What will happen to his profession now that text and paper are separated? It seems to Dubois that his heart is split into two parts. It seems that a revolution is brewing. It’s time to despair, but... Dubois only smiles mysteriously. And he continues to work - he has lunch with authors, meets with readers, confers with booksellers... Now he does not part with the e-reader, which makes him discover a completely new, still frightening world. Dubois will help his young colleagues get used to it. Although he knows that he himself has no place in this world. The hero of the novel looks at what is happening with humor, insight and warmth - he is sure: no technical progress can destroy a person’s passion for reading.
