A city of lush palaces and temples, fragrant gardens and sparkling fountains, a city bearing the proud name “Gate of the Gods”, motley, vain, noisy, torn apart by internal strife, undermined by a vague premonition of the approaching sunset, but still majestic and arrogant, firmly believing in its chosenness, this is how the legendary Babilu - Babylon, the capital of the New Babylonian, or Chaldean, kingdom appears in the novel by the Slovak writer Margita Figuli. The novel in a lively, fascinating form introduces us to one of the most interesting pages of world history, with the centuries-old Babylonian culture, scientific achievements, literature and art, which long survived the fall of the Babylonian kingdom and were an important part of the ancient culture of mankind.
