We pronounce the names of some dictators with horror and shudder, the names of others with admiration and delight. We short-sightedly rejoice at the fall of tyrants. And we never know how history will evaluate their works and days. Most of them were remembered by posterity for their cruelty or greed, belligerence or arbitrariness, but some - a few - were not just successful invaders or prudent politicians. One of these chosen ones was and remained for centuries a brilliant commander and ruthless conqueror, an outstanding statesman and a wonderful writer, Gaius Julius Caesar (100-44 BC). Not only the words “Kaiser” and “king” came from his name “, but even the name of the method by which he was born is caesarean section. The month of July is named after his second name. His image was the first to appear on Roman coins: before that, only gods were minted on them. The Romans did not just deify Caesar - they traced his lineage to the gods. Caesar's activities forever changed the cultural and political landscape of Europe. A brilliant military strategist and tactician, he not only conquered all of Gaul and part of Britain, but won the civil war and prepared the transformation of Rome from a republic into an empire - probably the greatest empire of the past known to us. He said: “It is better to be first in the province than second in Rome" and "I came, I saw, I conquered." These are not nice words - these are what he put into practice. “To God is God’s, and to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s (that is, to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s),” says the saying. Which means: to each his own. Some - to strive for power, others - to cling to it, others - to revel in it, and only a select few - to guide clumsy peoples along the path of historical progress. The electronic publication of Caesar's notes includes the full text of the paper book and a selected part of the illustrative documentary material. And for true connoisseurs of gift editions, we offer the classic paper edition. Decorated with hundreds of color and black-and-white illustrations, the publication is both a fascinating eyewitness account and a kind of guide to the early pages of European history. The book is intended for everyone who wants to learn first-hand how modern Europe was born. Like all publications in the “Great Commanders” series, the book is provided with detailed historical and biographical comments; The text is accompanied by hundreds of illustrations from Russian and foreign sources. Beautiful printing, original design, the best offset paper - all this makes the books of the “Great Commanders” gift series the best gift for a man for all occasions.
