Author: Those who have already read or are currently reading my novel “The Tuning Forks of Grell” know that one of the plot lines in it is dedicated to the German composer and choirmaster Eduard Grell, who lived in Berlin in the 19th century. In the novel, Grel himself talks about himself in his memoirs. I have been asked many times whether Grell’s face is real. Yes, quite real. On the one side. On the other hand, in the novel, of course, I had to create him again along with his notes, which I wrote on his behalf, very close to real biographical facts. The style of the notes is also oriented towards the style of Grehl himself, whose memoirs I was lucky enough to look into in one of the Berlin archives. Since they lay there completely unprocessed and not very well sorted, I admit that it was rather difficult to read them. But just a few lines were enough for me to feel this person from the inside and want to write everything else myself - and in Russian.
