The first part represents memoirs for 1917, written briefly, from memory, since the manuscript was lost as a result of the author’s hasty flight from Kyiv. The second part, the “Diary” itself (from 04/05/1918 to 01/24/1919), describes in detail, day by day, the chronology of events in the Ukrainian State of Hetman Skoropadsky and the short period of the Directory’s rule in Kiev. As an appendix, the publication also includes memoirs Lev Chikalenko (1888-1965), the eldest son of Yevgeny Kharlampievich, presenting to the reader a picture of Ukraine during the Directory period (1919-1920) through the eyes of an eyewitness. The translation is based on the publication: Yevgen Chikalenko “Schodennik (1918-1919). Kyiv: Tempora, 2011. - 424 p. 978-617-569-071-0. The style and spelling of the Ukrainian original source are mostly preserved, only in some cases punctuation marks are placed according to modern rules to facilitate the perception of the text by the Russian-speaking reader. Some articles in the “Comments” section have been corrected and supplemented, in addition, The comments to the section “Excerpts from memories of the years 1919-1920” by Lev Chikalenko have been completely created.
