The publication includes Western European chronicles and documents covering the preparatory stage of the Hundred Years' War (1337-1453) and its earliest stage, which ended with the signing of the Esplechin Truce between the English and French kings (1340). The presented sources reflect the points of view of different parties involved in the war and complement each other. Thanks to this, the reader can get a vivid and fairly complete picture of how the largest military-political conflict of the Late Middle Ages arose and developed. The publication is supplied with detailed scientific comments and rich supporting material in the form of genealogical tables and historical and geographical maps. All texts of the publication have never been published in Russian translation before. The design of the publication uses miniatures from the 15th century: [author unknown] Queen Isabella of England and Jean d'Hainaut are preparing to sail from Dordrecht to England. Jean Froissart. "Chronicles"; Jean Fouquet. Queen Isabella's landing in England. “Great French Chronicles.” Published jointly with the Publishing House of the Faculty of History of St. Petersburg State University
