Aurelius Prudentius Clement (348 - after 405) is the largest Christian poet of Latin Antiquity. Having made a career as a high-level Roman administrator, Prudentius took up poetry in his later years, gaining fame as the “Christian Horace” and the founder of the allegorical poem. The book introduces the Russian reader for the first time to two major works of Prudentius - the poem “Psychomachy”, in the Virgilian spirit, depicting the battle of personified virtues and vices, and the cycle of hymns “Peristephanon”, glorifying Christian martyrs.
