For thirty years, from 1455 to 1485, the Lancastrians, whose emblem was a red rose, fought a war for the English throne with the York dynasty (the emblem was a white rose). The rivalry between the dynasties, romantically known as the Wars of the Roses, ended with the marriage of Henry VII and Princess Elizabeth, daughter of Edward IV of York. Since then, the scarlet rose has become the national emblem of England. The amazingly dramatic and bright fate of the majestic and beautiful Elizabeth will be discussed in the novel by Margaret Barnes.
