This novel can be read at any age - it contains a lot of goodness, humor, and factual material from the time the Americans settled Indian territories. The narrative is told on behalf of Laura, who lived with her sisters and parents in the Big Forest, then among the wild prairie, on the banks of Shady Brook, near Silver Lake. Snow storms, steppe fires, Indians, locusts, famine... more than once forced the settlers to move and hit the road again. Along with the description of life on every page of the novel - sincere love - for father, mother, sisters; sweet details of life, dialogues, father's songs, mother's desire to raise little ladies in the wild. However, the main thing that Laura’s parents taught her was love – for family, nature, her country.
