We offer the modern reader a reissue of the brochure, 1963 edition, which since its publication has become a bibliographic rarity. It was called simply and long: “The trial in the criminal case of an agent of British and American intelligence services, a citizen of the USSR, Penkovsky O. V. and a spy-connector of a British citizen, Wynne G..” It was published by the capital's Politizdat publishing house. One could not count on further reprinting of these rare materials in the next century. But... times have changed, the doors of special storage facilities have opened, technology and glasnost have made giant strides, society has become more open, and the secret has become apparent. But society has not lost interest in the events of half a century ago, and the personality of the American Stirlitz, a career, military officer, who served his overseas masters not out of fear, but out of conscience, caused the greatest possible harm to his homeland in those days. He appears before us in his true Judas appearance, without embellishment or makeup. The materials of the trial do not provide any opportunity for reflection and omission, and this is the value of this small but extremely instructive documentary narrative.
