The Grand Duke of Galicia Yaroslav Vladimirovich, nicknamed “Osmomysl” (i.e., knowledgeable), was one of the most powerful and respected rulers of his time. But in his principality, Yaroslav was not the absolute master: the rebel boyars burned his mistress Nastasya at the stake and forced the prince to reconcile with his abandoned wife Olga, the daughter of Yuri Dolgoruky. However, before his death, Osmomysl still gave his principality not to Olga’s son, Vladimir, but to Nastasya’s son, Oleg.
