Petr Vasilievich Polezhaev (1827–1894) was a Russian novelist. Born in Penza. He became famous as the author of the series of novels “Intrigues and Executions” from the history of the 18th century, which tells about the tragic struggle for the throne of the Russian Empire. This volume presents Polezhaev’s novel “The Throne and the Monastery” - about the suppression of the Streltsy revolt. This is a fascinating historical narrative about the struggle for power after the death of Tsar Fyodor Alekseevich.
