Petr Vasilievich Polezhaev (1827–1894) was a Russian novelist. Born in Penza. He became famous as the author of the series of novels “Intrigues and Executions” from the history of the 18th century, which tells about the tragic struggle for the throne of the Russian Empire. This volume presents two works by Polezhaev. In the novel “Favour and Disgrace,” the author describes the short reign of Peter II and the fate of the Dolgorukov family of princes closely associated with him, as well as the story of Anna Ioannovna’s appearance on the Russian throne. The novel “The Lopukhin Case” tells the story of a conspiracy against A.P. Bestuzhev-Ryumin, the vice-chancellor of Elizaveta Petrovna.
