Prince Sergei Vladimirovich Golitsyn (1823–1879), like other descendants of the ancient family of princes Golitsyn, who gave the Fatherland many military and government figures, was not averse to creative pursuits - he was a writer and music critic. The first part of it is dedicated to the fate of Prince Vasily Vasilyevich Golitsyn, a boyar and favorite of the ruler Sophia. Having come to power, Peter I exiled Golitsyn to the Arkhangelsk region, where he died. The second part of the novel tells about the childhood, youth and youth of Prince Mikhail Alekseevich Golitsyn, a man of brilliant abilities and noble spiritual qualities, whose fate subsequently developed tragically. After marrying an Italian and changing his faith to Catholic, he was asked to go to Russia, separated from his wife and doomed to the role of Anna Ioannovna’s court jester.
