Charlotte Mary Young (1823–1901) was an English writer and author of many books for children. A passionate admirer of Walter Scott, Jung became interested in studying history. Having ventured into writing herself, she published several novels one after another, which brought her fame (“The Ratcliffe Heir,” “The Dove in the Eagle’s Nest,” etc.). Charlotte Young, like many women of the Victorian era, saw her destiny in educational activities: more than one generation of children read the fascinating “Tales of Aunt Charlotte” about Ancient Rome, Ancient Greece, England, France and America. On the pages of the novel “The Captive Lion” presented in this volume, the castles of Scotland full of dark secrets, kings riding in armor along the roads of the country, like simple knights, noble vassals, proud and passionate ladies appear before the eyes of readers as if in reality... This is the romantic world of the Middle Ages, created by the pen and imagination of the popular writer of the year before centuries.
