The Chilean poet and prose writer Roberto Bolaño (1953–2003) is called one of the first classics of world literature of the 21st century. He lived only fifty years and, although he began publishing at forty, he managed to publish more than a dozen books and become the winner of many prestigious awards, including the very honorable ones - the Romulus Gallegos Prize, as well as the Spanish Erralde. Great fame came to Bolaño after the publication of the novel “Wild Detectives” (1998). After the author’s death, the novel “2666” was published - it received the Salammbo Prize in 2004 as “the best novel in Spanish”, was recognized as Book of the Year in Portugal, and The New York Times included it in the list of 10 main books of 2008 The novel “The Third Reich” is one of those books by Bolaño that was published after the author’s death, although it is one of his early works. The hero of the novel, German Udo Berger, together with his fiancée Ingeborg, comes to the Catalan resort town, where he vacationed with his parents many years ago, but finds himself in a completely different world. Against his own will, Berger finds himself involved in strange and sinister events and sets out to unravel their meaning and find the truth.
