“Tibetan Buddhism” is the first study in Russian and foreign science of the process of rooting Buddhism in Tibetan society and state in the 7th–17th centuries. Considering the history of the advancement of Buddhism in Central Asia, the author sets out to answer the question, due to what exact reasons and conditions the teachings of Buddha Shakyamuni, which arose in ancient India, became the state religion of Tibet, which determined the historical destinies of this country and the spiritual aspirations of its people. The author vividly and historically accurately recreates the stages of the growth of Buddhist ideology in an empire inhabited by warlike unliterate ethnic groups and asserting their power through armed expansion. Readers will learn how Buddhism, having gained a foothold in the geopolitical center of Central Asia, contributed to the transformation of the once formidable and aggressive Tibetan empire into a peace-loving citadel of spiritual culture that spread Buddhist enlightenment far beyond its borders. The book is based on a wide range of Buddhist written monuments and unique information obtained the author in personal contacts with Tibetan and Mongolian scientists - bearers of a living religious tradition. The simplicity and clarity of presentation, the abundance of exciting historical and cultural stories make it accessible and attractive to a wide range of readers.
