The Latin kingdoms in the East, which arose as a result of the Crusades, became islands of Western civilization in a completely alien world. The most powerful of these states was the Kingdom of Jerusalem, its center was the Holy City of Jerusalem with the Holy Sepulcher located there, the reconquest of which was the main goal of the crusaders.
