The Latin kingdoms in the East, which arose as a result of the Crusades, became islands of Western civilization in a completely alien world. The most powerful of these states was the Kingdom of Jerusalem, its center was the Holy City of Jerusalem with the Holy Sepulcher located there, the reconquest of which was the main goal of the crusaders. Jean Richard in his book “The Latin Kingdom of Jerusalem” shows all the stages of the formation of statehood of this unique possession of the West in the East, methodically analyzing the spiritual and social reasons for its decline and death. The interaction of Western and Eastern cultures, the expansion of the European worldview, knightly ideals and the clash of two religions clearly demonstrate the entire panorama of the life of a medieval man of the 13th–14th centuries.
