In the sweltering summer of 1935, on her way to North Yorkshire, Olivia Adamson meets an eccentric elderly lady. Lady Elspeth Pongleton persuades her new acquaintance to spend a few days at her ancient estate, where she plans to introduce the girl as her companion. Having given her consent, Olivia has no idea that in Yorkshire she will be detained for a long time by the investigation of a crime whose roots go back to the distant past. In Madlington, she will have to try on not only the role of a companion, but also a hypocritical intriguer, a suspect, and a detective. She will be assisted in the investigation by her twin brother Philip, the young lady Miss Imogen Price, who dreams of achieving fame in the theatrical field and, oddly enough, police inspector Grooms, who holds very progressive views. What is hidden in the past of the Pongleton family? And what secrets does the abandoned chapel hide? The answers to these questions are there, in Madlington. The second book in the series about the investigations of the Adamson twins will appeal to fans of classic English detective stories.
