The name of Georgy Isidorovich Polonsky (1939–2001) is well known thanks to films based on his scripts: “We'll Live Until Monday” (1968), “The Non-Transferable Key” (1972), “Don’t Leave...” (1989). But Polonsky’s texts are valuable in themselves - they are mesmerizing, they are distinguished by virtuoso precision of dramaturgy: under the influence of small, sand-like events, the characters in his stories change, the truth is imperceptibly deformed... An incredible effort may be required to preserve oneself, to go against, to overcome fear or pain. Polonsky’s fictional worlds (the kingdoms of Abidonia or Puffy Peronia, for example) are also devoid of this sweetness; it is not without reason that his fairy tales are for adults. Heroes always follow high ideals. But not every character is a hero. And in wonderful kingdoms too...
