Jean Giraudoux is a classic of French literature (1882–1944), author of more than 30 works of different genres, a brilliant stylist, a keen, witty observer, a paradoxical thinker. In Russia, Giraudoux is better known as a playwright - six of his plays have been published. The novel "Eglantine" is part of a unique four-volume family chronicle dedicated to the noble Fontrange family, their friends and acquaintances. One of these novels - "The Liar" - was published by the publishing house "MIK" in 1994. “Eglantine” deals with the events that preceded those described in “The Liar.”
