A thousand years have passed since the Apocalypse, as a result of which civilization on planet Earth was destroyed by nuclear war. But still, in some places people were able to survive and continue the struggle for survival in a hostile, radiation-infected and destroyed world. New states and cities were created. Among the peoples who continue the war for lands not contaminated by radiation, there is a legend that somewhere far away, underground, there are shelters where people, the so-called Ancient Gods, who lived before the Apocalypse and possessed untold wealth - knowledge, could hide and survive. In the country of the Azure Mountains, standing on the verge of an invasion by wild hordes of Chelman tribes, a hundred brave fighters are being formed who will have to go in search of the refuge of the Ancient Gods. But to do this, you will first need to win the war. Chief of the Snow clan Barsov, Valhar, and the military leader Balver decide to appoint a young man, who has only recently been initiated into warriors, as the commander of the clan, in memory of their friend, Ulrich, who died in a battle with another hostile people, the Gaars. Their choice is not accidental. Rutger is the son of Ulrich, and during his training in martial arts he showed himself to be an extraordinary person. In the future, they predict a great destiny for him, and with joint efforts they want to place him on the throne of the Lord of the country of the Azure Mountains, torn apart by internal contradictions between seven clans and the intrigues of the lords. Rutger faces a difficult task. He must, with several hundred brave fighters, stop the advancing horde of Chelmans, and give time to the military leader Balver to gather the armies of allies - Rosses, Querks, and Divas - under his banners. All this is done secretly from the lords and the Lord of Algar, because if they found out about this, they could interfere. Quite by accident, the young commander manages to find out that the enemy’s invasion is not accidental, that the lords themselves are involved in this, trying to keep power in their hands and prevent the rebellious Whig people from resurrecting the Laws of their Ancestors. Rutger blocks the road leading to the capital of the Blue Mountains with a stone wall in the narrowest place of the Wolf Gate gorge, and brilliantly copes with the task, but victory comes at a high price. At this time, the military leader Balwer, who managed to gather an army, attacks the Chelman camp on the flank, and the Whigs emerge victorious from the battle. Having taken an oath from the defeated enemies that they would never return to the country of the Azure Mountains, the military leader releases the prisoners. Rutger is accused of causing damage to one from the lords and sentenced to three years in the mines, a fine of a thousand gold coins. This is where the whole essence of the ruling elite manifests itself, caring only about its own enrichment, and not at all thinking about what will happen in the future with the Azure Mountains. Later, under pressure from the clan leaders, the charges against Rutger will be dropped, but now he clearly understands who his real enemy is. One night, the military leader Balwer is poisoned by a hired killer, and discord begins again among the newly united clan leaders, and it cannot lead to anything good. After the funeral feast for the dead warriors, Rutger, as the late leader bequeathed to him, goes south in search of the Ancient Gods in order to receive from them weapons that can withstand the hordes of the enemy, and knowledge that can help exalt the country Lazorev Mountains Nobody knows what might await them along the way. About the countries in the south there are only rumors, fairy tales, legends about monsters, monsters, and they are not really believed. As soon as the squad manages to cross the Black Forest, according to legend, full of bloodthirsty monsters, who actually turned out to be people whose ancestors were changed by mutations caused by radiation, the squad comes across a hut standing in a small forest, and a girl hiding in it from the Chelmans, who called herself Errilaya - a witch from the Rovvo family. She accurately predicts where Rutger's squad is heading, and prophesies to him that he will become the Lord of the country of the Azure Mountains, and she, his wife. Taking pity on the poor girl, the young governor takes her with him to save her and help her survive in a country devastated by the Chelmans. Nobody takes her words seriously, however, very soon she can prove that everything told to her is true. She senses the danger posed by enemies, senses areas of the terrain contaminated with radiation, and reports this to the soldiers. Thanks to her, the squad is always ready for attacks and can give a worthy rebuff to the enemy. The party continues south, and soon stumbles upon a fertile valley inhabited by mutated wolves. With surprise, people realize that popular rumors about werewolves, monsters and monsters are not fairy tales, but the very truth. Having withstood a bloody night battle, having lost many of their friends, they stubbornly move on, bound by an oath, and soon find themselves in Russia. It has its own laws and attitude towards strangers. They are met with hostility and tension. They are considered barbarians and decide destroy. With the help of one of the Rus, they manage to go down into the dungeons of the capital of Russia, and end up in places inhabited by ghouls. They find thousands of skeletons, and this leads them to believe that a thousand years ago, the ancestors used this place as a shelter to escape during the Apocalypse, but death overtook them here too. Moving further through the dungeons, now and then fighting with ghouls, the Whigs gradually realize that it was in vain to idolize their ancestors. Suspicion is growing that they were ordinary people, and not so well adapted to the struggle for survival. They were weak, small in stature, and could hardly live in modern conditions after the Apocalypse. Thanks to a random coincidence of circumstances, it is possible to find out that there are traitors in the squad, assassins sent by the lords, to kill Rutger. Fortunately, they can be destroyed. With great difficulty, the Whigs manage to get out of the man-made dungeons of the capital of Russia, and they find themselves on the seashore, where a thousand years ago there was a desert. They find a guide from a tribe living by the sea, and he promises to show them the way to the lands where the Yuvger tribes live, where, according to legend, the refuges of the Ancient Gods are located. After dangerous adventures and battles with unknown mutants, they manage to reach the plateaus where the Yuvgers live, and then it turns out that they are at war with the Ancient Gods. They hunt them down and kill them, sacrificing them to their gods. The Whigs help the Yuvgers win the battle with the attacking mutants, and they learn that the human world is in danger of complete destruction from the Primordial Evil, which is approaching from South. Gradually, the Whigs realize that if they do not unite all the peoples of the Inhabited World, then they simply will not survive in the coming war. Errilaya, a witch, predicts that there is a war in the country of the Azure Mountains, and the Whigs now want to get to their homeland as quickly as possible, but they cannot go there until they fulfill the will of the military leader Balwer. Finally, they manage to save one of the Ancient Gods from bloodthirsty mutants, and, pursued by the creatures, they end up in an underground shelter called the Hive. They see the Whigs as enemies, and are in no hurry to trust them. They will have to overcome many difficulties before the Ancients believe and give exactly what they came for. People are surprised to learn that not everything is as good in the Hive as the legends say, but they decide not to interfere and go to the country as quickly as possible Lazorev Mountains Throughout the Whig campaign, we see how the character of the main character of the book, Rutger, is formed, how his relationships with other people develop. How he himself, through his own mistakes, learns what betrayal, true friendship, and selfless loyalty to an oath are. How difficult it is sometimes to make fateful decisions for the squad, and how difficult and bitter it is to bury friends who died in battle. We see how, under the weight of circumstances, from a good-natured, naive young man, the governor of the Snow Leopard clan turns into a prudent, cunning, and at the same time honest, noble warrior.
