Correspondence between two famous writers Sergei Esin and Semyon Reznik began in 2011 and ended with the sudden death of Sergei Esin in December 2017. Sergei Nikolaevich Esin, professor and long-term rector of the Literary Institute. A. M. Gorky, prose writer and literary critic, author of the novels “Imitator”, “Gladiator”, “Marburg”, “Marquis”, “Tverbul” and many other works of art, as well as the famous “Diaries”, published for many years in separate volumes - yearbooks. Semyon Efimovich Reznik, writer and historian, editor of the ZhZL series, and after immigrating to the United States, editor and literary employee of the Voice of America and America magazine, author of more than twenty books. These include the historical novels “Chaim da Marya” and “Bloody Carousel”, books about Nikolai Vavilov, Ilya Mechnikov, Vasily Parin, Alexei Ukhtomsky and other outstanding scientists, historical and journalistic works, of which the book “Together or Apart?”, written “in the margins” of the scandalous and famous dilogy by A. I. Solzhenitsyn. Living on opposite sides of the ocean, the authors did not agree with each other on everything. But they were united by mutual respect, personal sympathy and a deep love of literature. In the book, letters from writers to each other are interspersed with fragments from the works they discussed.
