The plot of the play is based on a real story, one of the heroes of which was the famous English writer Oscar Wilde. In 1895, the Marquess of Queensberry learned about his son’s relationship with the writer and left the latter a note saying that he was behaving like a sodomite. Offended, Wilde sued the Marquis, but as a result he himself was prosecuted for “committing indecent acts against male persons.” After serving two years in prison, the writer left England, and three years later died in a foreign land. “The Kiss of Judas” is at times piercingly sad, at times witty, a production that draws interesting parallels between the story described above and the biblical one.
