“The sea dreams as if it were the sky”: Isabel flees to Spain from Latin America from the dictatorial regime. In a new place, she meets a fellow immigrant, poet and translator named Avendaño. But the past still haunts both, and Avendaño, for some unknown reason, returns to his homeland, where he disappears without a trace. In his apartment, Isabel finds two texts that the poet was working on: memories of being in captivity during the revolution and a translation of an ancient occult treatise. On their pages, soaked in blood and suffering, a monstrous picture of what really happened in the country from which Isabel escaped with such difficulty gradually unfolds. And the more she reads them, the stronger the inexplicable desire grows in her to return home at her own peril and risk. There, where something terrible awakens, hidden by fog and prejudice, but undoubtedly alive. “The hour struck the heart”: a librarian working with cataloging folklore records from the southern United States unexpectedly comes across a song that, according to legend, was composed by the devil himself. And this melody has an eerie and ominous effect on the reality around. Trying to get rid of the trouble, the main character wants to find the place where the recording was made. And this path will lead him to a secret that it would be better not to reveal to mere mortals.
