Ronald David Laing (1927–1989) was one of the most famous figures of the 1960s era. and the most popular psychiatrist of the century after 3. Freud and C. G. Jung. His views on the nature of madness and revolutionary activities forever changed the face of psychiatry, his books, published in millions of copies and translated into more than twenty languages, read like novels and manifestos, and his bright personality still causes controversy among biographers and critics. The first Russian-language biography of Laing, built on original sources, recreates the outline of his life and work, the main ideas of his works and projects, presenting his figure in the unity of many images - psychiatrist and anti-psychiatrist, philosopher and social critic, guru and revolutionary. The work was carried out within the framework of the project “Social theory and social practice of antipsychiatry” with the support of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (No. 10-06-00078a).
