Medicine is changing rapidly every decade. What yesterday they could not treat yet today turns out to be completely curable, and after correction the person turns out to be practically healthy. And vice versa, what was considered normal yesterday, today threatens health. For example, doctors say: blood sugar up to 5.6 is normal, 5.7–6.9 is prediabetes, 7.0 and above is diabetes! And not so long ago, diabetes mellitus was considered a blood sugar level of 8. The same applies to blood pressure numbers and cholesterol. The classic norm of blood pressure 120/80 today is no longer the norm, but pre-hypertension! And vice versa: quite recently, doctors warned about the danger of low-grade fever (moderate increase in body temperature), but today they say that 37.5 is normal, and do not advise lowering the temperature until it rises to 38 degrees. A couple of years ago it was believed that fats were evil and the less you consumed, the better. It turned out that not all of them are harmful, but only trans fats—those that are produced industrially. But butter and lard are very healthy and necessary for healthy longevity. And vice versa: just 5 years ago, everyone was intensively buying vitamins and other products in pharmacies, as if they were replenishing deficiencies in the body and increasing immunity. It turned out that not only is this not beneficial, but it also poses a real danger, increasing the risk of cancer. In connection with this, there is a need to update our established ideas about health and illness; about what is harmful and useful, about what needs to be treated (and urgently!), and what there is no need to see a doctor for. This is what Dr. Myasnikov’s new book-reboot is about.
