We present to your attention the stories of Mikhail Ancharov, written by him during the 1960-1980s and published in various magazines and newspapers. Since a significant part of these publications was not in the focus of attention of the reading public in those days, and remains completely inaccessible to modern readers, Ancharov’s stories remain unknown even to the majority of his fans. Nevertheless, as it seems to us, they form a separate and very bright chapter in his prose, which Mikhail Leonidovich himself was inclined to underestimate. At the end of his life, he used many of the stories as templates for insertion into larger works, which, by his own admission, prevented him from republishing them in a separate collection. We decided to fill this obvious gap. The collection presents all of Ancharov’s published stories, with the exception of two early ones (and in our opinion, too tied to the opportunistic requirements of the time): “Drum on the Moon Road” (“Smena” No. 11, June 1-15 1964) and “Two Postscripts” (“Around the World” No. 2, 1966). The author expresses gratitude to Viktor Shlemovich Yurovsky for many years of work in the archives, which made this publication possible. For non-commercial use, distribution without restrictions. For questions regarding distribution for a fee, republication in paper, or other direct commercial use of the materials in this book, in whole or in part, please contact the compiler’s e-mail address: Yu.
