As a historian, this man is ranked among the most authoritative chroniclers of antiquity - along with Thucydides, Titus Livius, Arrian, Tacitus. His works have enjoyed continued popularity since the first centuries of our era - both as entertaining reading and as a source of information about the turbulent past of the Middle East; they were studied by the Church Fathers, and in the 20th century they, in particular, inspired Lion Feuchtwanger, who created a series of historical novels based on them. The name of this man is Josephus, and in his writings he preserved for us the history of the land that became the cradle of Christianity.
