Flavius Josephus (Josephus Flavius, Joasaph ben Matateyahu, 37 - 100 AD) - Jewish historian, military leader, author of several works on Jewish history. The works of Josephus were widely known in the early Christian era as indirect evidence of the reality of the Gospel events. “Jewish Antiquities” is a book of 20 chapters telling about the history of the Jewish people. It was written in Greek, for the Hellenes, who were convinced that the Jews did not have their own path of development. Josephus created an adapted work of his time, based on excerpts from the sacred books. Following the well-known events of the Torah (in the Christian tradition - the Old Testament), the historian talks about the era of the Ptolemies, Seleucids, Herod the Great - up to the reign of the last Jewish procurator Gessius Florus. Josephus sincerely wanted to destroy the prejudices of the ancient world against his people. His works deeply reveal to the reader the history and culture of the Jewish people. Other famous works include “The Jewish War,” “Autobiography,” and the treatise “Against Apion.”
