As soon as we talk about medieval knights in general, the same, essentially the same image of valiant and noble warriors in bright shining armor immediately passes before our mind's eye. However, as soon as you look closely at this beautiful image, it begins to blur, fragment, losing its original unambiguity. The author of this book, the famous French researcher Jean Flory, deliberately splits the textbook image of chivalry into several key problems and tries to solve them by considering them in time. And surprisingly, in search of answers to the most important questions about the history of chivalry: about the origin, about changes in battle tactics, about tournaments, about the ideology and influence of the Church and aristocracy on its formation, about vassalage and land holdings, about the Crusades and knightly literature - we, together with the author, return again to the original image, which unexpectedly acquired flesh and blood, enriched in our eyes with many details of our daily life.
