Vladimir Galaktionovich Korolenko (1853–1921) is an outstanding Russian writer, journalist and public figure, without whose work it is impossible to imagine literature of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. Korolenko was called “the conscience of Russian literature.” As the writer's contemporaries noted, he did not close his eyes to the horrors of life, did not hide his head under the wing of short-sighted optimism, he was not afraid of life, but loved it and admired it. This book is a collection of works of art written by Korolenko based on personal impressions during the years of exile wandering, mainly during his Siberian exile. Siberian stories and essays have not been published in such complete form in Russia for more than 70 years.
