The Odyssey is the second (after the Iliad) classical poem attributed to the ancient Greek poet Homer. Probably created in the 8th century BC. e. or a little later. Tells about the adventures of the mythical hero named Odysseus during his return to his homeland after the end of the Trojan War, as well as the adventures of his wife Penelope, who was waiting for Odysseus in Ithaca. Like Homer's other famous work, the Iliad, the Odyssey is replete with fairy-tale elements, of which there are even more here (meetings with the Cyclops Polyphemus, the sorceress Kirke, the god Aeolus, etc.). Most of the adventures in the poem are described by Odysseus himself during a feast with King Alcinous. CONTENTS: ODYSSEY (5). ADDENDUM V.A. Zhukovsky. Homer's Odyssey. Instead of a preface. Excerpt from the letter (282). APPENDICES Notification from the preparer (287). V.N. Yarho. “Odyssey” - folklore heritage and creative individuality (289). V.N. Yarho. V.A. Zhukovsky - translator of “The Odyssey” (330). A.S. Yanushkevich. About the dedication and preface to the translation of “The Odyssey” by V.A. Zhukovsky (347). V.N. Yarho.
