Joseph Roth (1894–1939) is an outstanding Austrian writer, a classic of world literature of the 20th century, author of the famous novels “Radetzky March”, “Crypt of the Capuchins”, “Job”. The action of the novel “Right and Left” takes place in Germany after the First World War. At the center of the story is the son of a banker, a gifted man, but weak-willed and indecisive. He is contrasted with an emigrant from Russia, a practical businessman, at the same time endowed by the author with romantic traits. Both heroes experience a tragic collapse of illusions. The novel is published in Russian for the first time.
