In the dynamic essay “The Agony of Eros,” Byung-Chol Han views control over passions in modern society as the most important tool for “taming” and manipulation by power. Under the yoke of this control, a person is no longer able to love and only indulges his sexuality. Today, sex is a performance, sexuality is capital. Porn is an anticipation of dead sex in virtual space, and not of living sexuality. A society of burnout, in which a person is exhausted by himself, without the opportunity to free himself in relation to the Other, is a society without Eros.
