Vladislav Zadorozhny’s novel “Protection from a Fool,” written in 1983, did not have the slightest chance of being published before the onset of glasnost. In essence, it was a book “for the table.” After all, everything that was somehow projected onto the reality of that time was not allowed to the people by the zeal of literary officials. But, perhaps, over the years, not only the manuscript has become covered with dust, but also its contents - a lot has changed since then, many facts, previously carefully hidden from the masses, have become public property? No. The novel, which circulated among science fiction lovers during the years of stagnation, has not lost its relevance today. However, it could not have been otherwise. Social fiction and philosophical fiction are less subject to time than so-called science fiction, which can barely keep up (at least for now) slightly ahead of scientific and technological progress. The nature of power and its implementation is the main theme of the novel, which in a sense can be called a novel-warning to society.
