Автор майстерно створює атмосферу безнадії та боротьби, де біженці з різних земель намагаються знайти притулок у столиці імперії. Особливо вражає розвиток персонажів, зокрема старшої дочки імператора, яка змушена взяти на себе тягар влади в умовах, коли зрадництво і темна магія панують навколо. Книга пронизана глибокими філософськими роздумами про людську природу, ревнощі, амбіції та моральні вибори. Яскраві описи та динамічний сюжет тримають у напрузі до останньої сторінки.
