Marie Jungstedt is a popular Swedish writer, author of detective novels, and former television and radio journalist. Jungstedt's books have been translated into many languages, their total circulation in her homeland alone amounted to over 1.5 million copies. Today, Marie Jungstedt is one of the most widely read authors in Sweden, successfully developing the traditions of the Scandinavian detective story following such internationally recognized masters of the genre as Stieg Larsson and Henning Mankell. Several of Marie Jungstedt’s novels formed the basis of the joint Swedish-German series “The Commissioner and the Sea,” which strengthened the writer’s fame. The novel “The Invisible” is Jungstedt’s literary debut, from which her great fame began. Here the reader meets police commissioner Anders Knutas and television journalist Johan Berg, heroes of novels about investigating crimes on the picturesque island of Gotland. For the first time, fate brought them together under tragic circumstances: on the island at the beginning of the tourist season, a brutal murder of an attractive thirty-five-year-old woman was committed. Soon, the shocked residents of Gotland learn about a new crime, and a little later about another one... Knutas and Berg, each using their own methods, are trying to establish whether there is a connection between the brutal murders of women and, most importantly, whether the criminal has identified a new victim. Who is he, to whom and for what is this invisible, but again and again reminiscent of himself, Gotlandic killer taking such terrible revenge?.. Here is a Swedish detective at his best - mysterious, atmospheric, chilling to the bone.
