The collection includes two stories: “The Fight for Fire” and “The Last Flight.” The first story is an episode from the life of the Stone Age. The distant Stone Age is a difficult period in the formation of humanity. How did the homo beast become sapiens? How did he survive and how did he become intelligent? Was it enough to just survive? It was necessary to become not just reasonable, but also humane! The first weak shoots of humanism sprouted precisely then - in the Stone Age. The hero of the story “The Fight for Fire” proves this by his actions. He gave fire to his fellow tribesmen. He did not allow his gift to be used for evil. He spared no fire for the neighboring tribe. The second story is about the distant future. An instructor - an old space wolf - and a young cadet, during a training flight through superspace, end up on the anomalous peak of Krixon, where they unexpectedly discover a strange city inhabited by unknown space creatures. Who are they? The romantic cadet wants them to turn out to be reasonable. The logical instructor claims that these are just space ants. Who's right?
