Wenrik Sienkiewicz (1846–1916) was a famous Polish writer. He began working for a newspaper and from 1876 to 1878 was a special correspondent in the United States. He turned to literary creativity in the 80s. 19th century Sienkiewicz’s place in world literature was determined by the novels “With Fire and Sword,” “The Flood,” “Pan Volodyevsky” and “The Crusaders,” dedicated to turning points in the history of his homeland. In 1896, Senkevich was elected a corresponding member of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences, and in 1914 he became an honorary academician. Winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature for 1905. This volume publishes the novel “In the Wilds of Africa,” written by Sienkiewicz under the impression of his own travels in Africa. The main characters of the novel, Stas and Nel, live in Port Said with their fathers, who are supervising the construction of the Suez Canal. But, having decided to take their children on a short trip with excursions to the historical places of Egypt, caring parents did not even suspect what dangers these holidays would turn out to be.
