In September 1955, construction of the first Soviet nuclear submarine began in the Soviet Union. In March 1959, K-3 (Leninsky Komsomol) became part of the Soviet Navy. In July 1962, for the first time in the history of the USSR, she made a long voyage under the ice of the Arctic Ocean, during which she passed the North Pole point twice. The book tells about the heroic path traveled by scientists, designers, shipbuilders, admirals, officers and sailors in the creation and operation of "K-3", which marked an outstanding stage in shipbuilding and ushered in the era of domestic submarine and surface nuclear-powered ships.
