Welcome to Berlin in the summer of 1945. Seasoned war journalist Jake Geismar miraculously makes it to the Potsdam Conference, where the press is barred, but his assignment is a series of articles about the occupation of Germany, and therefore he needs a story. Not only that: he must find his beloved from pre-war times. But when the corpse of an American military man with a huge amount of occupation stamps washes up on the shore of the lake, literally next to Stalin, Churchill and Truman, posing for photographers, Jake does not even imagine that he has stumbled upon not only the plot of a future article - he has found himself in the very core of the tangle where passion, hatred, secrets of three powers and crimes that cannot be justified.
