Jane Doe is actually an anthropologist and an expert on shamanism. But now she is nobody, just a shadow. After faking her own suicide, she lives under an assumed name in Miami with a sick little girl she picked up on the street. A series of ritual murders occur in Miami, causing the city to be on the verge of panic. The investigation is led by detective Jimmy Paz, who manages to track down witnesses who were at the crime scene. But they all, as one, cannot remember anything. Paz comes to a disappointing conclusion - they were simply under a spell. Unfortunately, he turns out to be right, because events in a modern civilized city are increasingly reminiscent of a hellish cocktail of a mixture of African sorcerers' spells and voodoo magic.
