The Divine Liturgy is the main service during which the sacrament of the Church is celebrated: the sacrament of Communion, or the Eucharist. The first liturgy was celebrated by our Lord Jesus Christ Himself in the Upper Room of Zion. From now on, every liturgy becomes a continuation of this event. According to the holy righteous John of Kronstadt, “In the gift of the Divine Liturgy of the Orthodox Church and in the granting of the Most Pure Sacraments to it, God has given so much that no human mind can appreciate the greatness of these gifts: the gift of rebirth, adoption, renewal, the right to eternal life, entry into heaven, cohabitation with the Angels and all the saints and eternal reconciliation with the Heavenly Father and participation in His holiness and bliss... We thank the Lord, who revives us with His wonderful Mysteries. Orthodox Christians, worship the liturgy, which worships us by the grace of God.”
