“Two giants”, “blocks”, “giants”, “two geniuses of the golden age of Russian culture”, “the greatest writers in the entire history of culture”. This was the name given to contemporaries of two great Russian writers – Fyodor Dostoevsky and Leo Tolstoy. And these high ranks remain with them to this day: no one has ever competed with them. Moreover, many of today's famous writers admit that the “two giants” were their Teachers: they built on their works to create their own artistic cosmos. Of course, like all bright personalities, Tolstoy and Dostoevsky had both enemies and envious people, calling the first “a gentleman who is a fool for Christ”, and the second a “tarantula”, “a jar of spiders”. But no one glorified Russian literature as much as these geniuses. Their names are still spoken all over the world with admiration to this day.
