Pierre Bordage is France's most successful living science fiction and fantasy author, period. He has such circulations that other authors dare not even dream of. His list of awards includes prizes that some would not even dream of. He is published by no less than six publishing houses, and if someone wants to fly on vacation with the complete collection of his works, they will probably have to pay extra when registering for excess weight. Pierre Bordage is the only French science fiction author who can make a living from writing, not only because of his literary talent, but also because of his amazing productivity. He was born in 1955 in the Vendée. I discovered writing only in 1975, when I accidentally ended up in a literary workshop in Nantes. To write my first novel “Les Guerriers” du Silence" ("Warriors of Silence") Pierre Bordage began in 1985. But it was only in 1992, already working as a sports reporter in Paris, that he found his first publisher. In March 1993, the novel “Warriors of Silence” was published by the Atlanta publishing house and immediately became a resounding success. In the following years, two more volumes of the “Warriors of Silence” trilogy appeared, received by the public with constant delight. In October 1996, “Wang - Les Portes d'Occident” (“Wang - the Gate of the West”) appeared, in May 1997 - “Wang - Les Aigles d'Orient" ("Wang - the Eagle of the East"), again two voluminous novels, the action of which takes place in the world of the future, two centuries distant from us. And these novels once again confirmed the development of Bordage’s talent. The novel Abzalon marked a return to space opera in 1998, but has already marked a shift emphasis on mythical and religious motifs. Pierre Bordage is married, he is the father of two children and in the summer of 1999 he moved with his family to the USA for two years. There he wrote, among other things, Orchéron, the sequel to Abzalon, but above all his perhaps most ambitious novel, L'Evangile du Serpent (The Gospel of the Serpent), a provocative retelling of the story of Jesus brought to the present day , where the evangelists are a killer, a prostitute, a scandalous journalist and a fanatical fan: in the place of the Heavenly Father there is a mother goddess, and the shamanic symbol of the double snake is associated with the picture of the double helix of DNA, the basic molecule of all life. As I write these lines, the situation is such that this “Gospel” may become Bordage’s first filmed novel. From the list of Pierre Bordage’s awards, it is worth mentioning such as: “Great Imagination Prize” and the Prize named after. Julie Verlanger (both 1994 for Warriors of Silence), Space 2000 Prize (1996 for Citadel Hyponeros), Eiffel Tower Society Prize (1997 for both Wang volumes), Paul Feval (awarded in 2000 for “Legends of Humpur”) and others. Oh yes, and besides, Pierre Bordage has been the president of the annual European science fiction congress “Utopiales” held in Nantes for several years now. And, despite all this, he considered possible to write a story specifically for this anthology. A trillion euros? Pierre Bordage is one of those who, when mentioning such amounts, thinks about inflation - and the degradation of all values... (A. Eschbach)
