The main character of the work is the Raffles Hotel, a symbol of the past that will never return. It is against the background of this central figure that real and imaginary events unfold, intertwined. The photographer Kariya, deceived in his hopes, and the young adventurer Takeo meet Moeko, a fragile and eccentric actress, in Singapore. The characters take the stage one by one and talk about themselves. Their stories overlap, return to their beginning, and little by little the reader is presented with pictures of mental struggles and torment that accompany the relationship of two people lost in the labyrinth of their own loneliness. This could be a novel about love and disappointment, but the author deliberately shuffles the cards and turns it into a puzzle that you are asked to solve.
