The main character Rodion Konovalov, despite all his abilities and talents, is an everyman. He is modest, does not like to stick his head out and does not try to be a hero. He is satisfied with the quiet life of a simple man in the street, but these are just dreams. Something is constantly happening to him. His childhood adventures can give odds to the adventures of Tom Sawyer. The matured Konovalov paradoxically merged in his character the rustic Bertie Wooster, with his talent for getting into stupid stories, and the educated Jeeves, who helps out in difficult situations. And with such a character, both in Soviet times and in the democratic period, he cannot count on boredom.
