For a Christian, suffering and grief, the inevitable accompaniments of death, are combined with faith in eternal life and resurrection. This motif clearly sounds in prayers for the dead - one of the most poetic liturgical services of the Orthodox Church. In his book, priest Maxim Varaev goes far beyond the analysis of these deep and sublime texts. Through them he reveals the theology of death and the Christian doctrine of eternal life. The author uses wonderful examples that will be close and understandable even to a person far from the Church. The appendix provides the texts of funeral prayers with parallel translation into Russian.
